Switching to a vegetarian and gluten free diet put me on a challenging and rewarding journey to learn a whole new way to create in the kitchen. I am here to share what I have learned with you.
In the summer of 2016 I made the decision to stop eating animals. Having had come to the realization that all of life is connected, it just seemed to be the right thing to do.
Being a food lover who views cooking as artistic expression, I found myself with a challenge. How was I to create without meat? I practiced and experimented, eating my share of blunders along the way, and started to have fun with this new way of culinary art.
Then in the spring of 2019 I was diagnosed with Celiac disease.
What? No more whole wheat toast? No more pasta? This, I decided, was going to be tough.
I approached my new challenge to create without meat AND without gluten with just a little apprehension, yet with a determination to continue to have fun in the kitchen.
I have experimented and learned and made mistakes. And I decided that if I am going to work this hard to figure this out for myself, I should probably share the things I have learned with others who may find themselves, either by choice or consequences, in the same boat.
So here it is. My first food blog. My goal is to share my triumphs and my struggles, and hopefully be able to pass on some tasty ideas along the way.
I am not a recipe follower, I tend to look at them for ideas and then do my own thing; my creations come from there. I will often have suggestions for variations and modifications; I hope that this encourages you to play and have fun with this as well.
Bon appetite!
